Weddings Endings
So with Wendell and Yen Vi's marriage comes the end of the immediate neXus weddings. That's kind of sad. We don't party much(anymore or ever...take your pick) and the weddings have been fun occasions. So in the spirit of reminiscing on the neXus weddings, I'm going to...reminisce on the neXus weddings.
Charles and Joanne. My only out of town wedding. That was fun. Raf, Damian and I made a good travelling Three Stooges. At the ceremony Charles kept doing this tight lipped Robbie Williams-y smile that Raf and I joked about. The golf course reception nice. I gave in to peer pressure and joined Bevon and Sarah for my first cigar smoke. But having a cigar with friends at a wedding, in Vancouver, overlooking a golf course, in great weather was a very nice moment. Little did we know that shortly after the golf course would become rather infamous....Charles! And what would start an informal tradition, we closed out the party and saw Charles and Joanne safely to their hotel to end the night.
Paul and Phan. Thus starts the interracial weddings. Y'know, I have no photos from this wedding. I went into my archives and Summies Yahoo! links are dead. And that's it. Damian do you have any? Did you have a digicam then? Anyway, I think I'll forever be in Paul and Phan's debt because I arrived late to the ceremony. Literally during the vows. That's gotta be some bad fung shwing. Foong shui. Hsui. Fung Shui. Bad luck. Nonetheless we had a fun break before the reception. Karen, Kevin, Damian and I played shuffleboard. Ok, maybe it wasn't that fun. And of course the reception where super fly MC Ricky holding it down for the Pacific Mall crew became a standard wedding reception MC joke(which comes up more often than you'd expect). And the Austin gag. Ah, the Austin gag. Good times. Totally ruined the sweet vibe from Yen Vi's song. Yes we closed this party down too. Phan wanted us to come over to their hotel. It was intruiging to see Paul try to put on a happy face and be in vehement disagreement at the same time.
Bevon and Sarah. Thus starts my pulling double duty as wedding party and super fly MC Wen holding it down for the Twister Karaoke crew. Being wedding party was fun. Dress up, smile for the camera, and endless lame jokes pretty much sums it up. And it wasn't limited to the wedding day. We were going a mile a minute at our tux fitting trying to get the cute-but-stonefaced saleslady to crack a smile. I still think Bevon had a great speech...at the wedding not at Tuxedo Royale. He claims to have been super nervous but he had this quiet gravitas about him that made you think that what he was saying could one day save your life. Either that or he could snap at any moment. Also the dancing was off the hook at this wedding. It went strong and people stuck around and Sarah even got individuals to bust solo styles. When it came to my turn I chickened out and got Sarah and Summie I think to sandwich me. Again, we closed out the party into the wee hours.
Wendell and Yen Vi. This one's still warm! One thing for sure is that the weather was in perfect harmony with the day. Sunny and warm, not too hot. Just lovely. And come on, I've known Wendell and Yen Vi for over a decade. 20+ years if you use sigma notation! Plus Wendell and I used to all the time lament being single so for one of us to get married(him) was big. I should have known that going for bagels in a little Jewish bagel diner in full-on tuxes was a sign of the idiocy to come that day and we really didn't disappoint. Good thing most of it was kept from Yen Vi. I still have the bombomneer on my desk at work! Bombedeer. Bombardier. Bambi Bambanek. Whatever...swag. And in true "Future Bart Simpson going to a strip club in his brother-in-law's honour" form, Paul most graciously got us some sweet Montecristos which we smoked at Raf's place AFTER seeing Wendell and Yen Vi to their house. Swell after party...what with Paul and I filling Raf's backyard with hork.
Good times.
Well I hope lighting strikes soon and either Winston, Raf, Damian or I get married. Or else we could all pause right about now and look in Zach's direction.
