darfur
i've been thinking about darfur. up to now, all the world leaders are basically sitting on their hands just "calling on" each other to do something. probably because nobody wants to commit soldiers and expense, and they fear political consequences of their own losses, getting stuck indefinitely, etc.
so i propose they just arm the victim group. air dropping some AKs costs nothing compared to military operations. airdropping food and medicine is common. why not weapons?
this will deter whoever is killing them. and if not the victims can at least defend themselves.
and if this leads to armed conflict, that's still less killing than genocide. so in terms of total human cost, we've saved. there's really no down side.
i mean, what i suggest isn't ideal. but it's going from worse to bad. which is good.

Maybe the aggressors have a chip on their shoulder because of their ridiculous name: "Janjaweed". Maybe renaming themselves to something badass like "Tamil Tigers" would give them more respect.
Ok, seriously though, I guess I see where you're going with this Charles, a lot of these conflicts just seem to escalate beyond diplomacy and politics(especially when you throw in religion) and when you're at your wits end some of the options you need to consider are just radical. I mean, isn't the nuclear bombing of Hiroshima a prime example?
